Hey guys,

I am looking to build a new MAME cabinet as mine has a rather outdated romset on it and I'd rather just leave it the way it is since the hardware that is in it wouldn't support most of the hard-disk based games in the later romsets anyway.

So what I would like to do is gather some opinions on the best way to get a NEW mame machine up and running. I'm no stranger to wiring or getting a mame frontend up in DOS as my current mame machine runs ArcadeOS + WIN98FE in DOS mode and runs flawlessly.

I would like to be able to run the latest MAME romset, I have access to Mac Mini's -- I have access to higher end PC's -- I would like to try to avoid running windows if possible. I'd like to run Linux or MacMAME, but please do share all of our opinions as I would like to hear the best way to do this.

If this is the wrong place to ask this type of question, please let me know where is the best place to ask this type of question as I haven't built a mame cab since 2001. Mameworld seems to be gone, however I might be looking at the wrong URL.

I'd like to know what is the best OS out of Linux/MacOSX,Windows (dont care for MAME32 as a frontend, want to be able to boot right into my frontend)

I prefer Mac or Linux, but please do share your opinions or point me to where I can ask this question and get a good bit of feedback so I can make the correct choice.

Thanks in advance!

I've only run MAME on Windows, so I can't help you there, but try BYOAC. You might have luck there, as I know there are people running MAME on Linux.
